Martin Franklin, Counselling & Therapy

Grounded, relational therapy for Coastal West Sussex and Online across the whole of the United Kingdom.

Support for life's transitions

I truly believe that deep, lasting change is possible for anyone because I’ve lived it. My own journey of moving from feeling stuck to finding a passion for life is what drives my practice today. If you are struggling with your identity or missing direction in life, you don't have to go it alone. I support people to take their control back, whether it's anxiety, loneliness, or the loss of a relationship or loved one. You can make your change and I'm here to help.I am based in coastal West Sussex for in-person sessions and I work online across the whole of the United Kingdom. I specialise in helping clients navigate from living by an old 'script' to reclaiming an authentic life filled with intimacy, spontaneity, and awareness.

Awareness

Moving past the "fog" to recognize the patterns and internal scripts that keep you stuck.

Spontaneity

Breaking free from autopilot. Learning that you have choices in how you respond to life today.

Intimacy

Developing the ability to be open and authentic with yourself and others.

How we'll work together

As your therapist, I offer more than just a place to be heard; I offer a collaborative partnership. My approach is rooted in Transactional Analysis and this means we will look at the scripts you developed in your early life, the hidden stories you carry, and the patterns which formed along the way. We'll use this awareness to help you to understand how you relate to yourself, the people in your life, and the world around you. We’ll look at those moments where you find yourself reacting the same way you did as a child, or maybe when you catch yourself sounding just like a critical parent, even when you know you don't want to. You will begin to notice when those 'old loops' start playing and move towards feeling empowered to break these cycles. Our therapeutic space will be a sanctuary to explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. Testing the water of a new way of being or to come back to who you always were. There's no right answer, we'll simply be curious about what could be.

More about Martin

I am an NCPS accredited therapist with hundreds of hours working alongside people who feel lost and ready for change. I developed my skills during the 3 years of my level 6 diploma with The Link Centre where I deepened my love for Transactional Analysis and relational therapy.
Alongside this phase of my training, I worked for West Sussex Mind supporting the local community with short-term CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) informed individual sessions, group workshops, and community events. During this time I worked with hundreds of people and offered thousands of hours of support, deepening my skills and gaining insight into the way the local medical systems provide mental health support.
I believe in many of the practices used in this system and have integrated this learning into my passion for longer-term, developmental and relational therapy. I'm proud of my integrative style and believe that finding the balance between here-and-and now strategies and the reflection & understanding of the past is vital in making lasting change.
In order to support my ongoing therapeutic work, I am currently in advanced clinical training to complete my advanced diploma in adult psychotherapy at level 7 and I participate in monthly group supervision.
My journey to private practice therapy began with my own therapy and experience of feeling lost at sea. Through early life into my twenties I had felt directionless and disempowered. Through my own therapy and a decade of learning I am grateful to feel a passion for where I now am in life and am privileged to be able to support others in creating their own new change.
